THE MAN, THE LEGEND

or something to that effect

Because you care

Jason Kobilka is — that is, I am a Graphic Designer/Web Person/Artist Thingy currently roosting in Brooklyn, NY. I graduated in 2003 from Dartmouth College, with a degree in Computer Science. More importantly, I know all the words to Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline", and I've beaten Contra in 3 lives with no continues (though I can no longer do so).

I currently crank code with WireMedia. In addition to website design, everyone there has developed his or her own unique super power. Marcy turns charcoal to diamonds with naught but her mind. As an intiation ritual, I had to eat fire. I don't think that's my power, though, because it hurt something fierce.

But should you find your project in need, in need of something good and beautiful, let me help. Send me an email and together we'll make things right again. And it's better than the Bat Signal, because we both know that illusion isn't rooted in any sort of realistic physics.

Also, if you need a resumé, please contact me.

A note about the site

This site has seen several iterations, many of which have been seen by nobody but myself. At the moment, the site primarily serves as on online portfolio of my work. At the moment, I don't have the time (or the content!) to maintain a blog. Though who knows, I may change my mind. Lucky you!

It looks like a torture implement, you say. Yeah. It wasn't necessarily my intent to make something so medieval- (or plain evil-) looking, but I just finished playing Ninja Gaiden again, and I've had a life-long fascination with those silent assassins. After an initial mock-up, I liked it enough to keep it. For a while, at least.

I've been on a recent web standards kick, ever since I found this site and realized that my little sliver of web-related cognizance wouldn't support me forever. For a first foray into standards-based design, I'd say it ain't half bad. Hopefully as the depth and breadth of content grows, I'll be able to expand the layout and push it a little further.

The particulars: For those who may be assessing my worth, the site is designed in Photoshop and Illustrator, hand-coded with the free and wonderful TextWrangler, and tested, scolded, and coddled to comply with strict XHTML and CSS. And, with any luck, good code and design. For the curious, the little dingbat in the section headers is lower-case "r" in Arabescos ND, a wonderful decorative font.

A thousand thanks to those who [unknowingly] helped this site/design see completion: Jeffrey Zeldman, Jason Santa Maria, and Lisa Fahrmeyer. Oh, and the contributors at A List Apart. Not that any of them have a clue who I am, but their clean code and inspiring designs certainly kicked my butt into some sort of gear.
